Control The Game

1. Plan your moves

Think ahead and try to anticipate your opponent's moves. Look for opportunities to capture your opponent's pieces and to king your own pieces.

2. Pay attention to the center of the board

Controlling the center of the board gives you more options for moving your pieces and makes it more difficult for your opponent to capture your pieces.

3. Don't be afraid to sacrifice pieces

Sometimes it is beneficial to sacrifice a piece in order to gain a positional advantage or to capture more of your opponent's pieces.

Checkers FAQ

    1. Getting Started

  • What's the objective? Win by capturing all your opponent's pieces or leaving them with no legal moves.
  • What's the board setup? An 8x8 checkered board with 64 squares. Each player starts with 12 pieces on the dark squares of the three rows closest to them.

  • 2. Gameplay

  • How do pieces move? Pieces move diagonally forward one square at a time on dark squares only.
  • Capturing pieces? Jump over an opponent's piece diagonally if the square beyond it's empty. The jumped piece is removed. If a jump is possible, it's mandatory. You can chain jumps in one turn if possible.
  • What is "kinging"? When a piece reaches the farthest row from the player, it's promoted to a "king" and gains the ability to move both forward and backward diagonally.

Checkers Rules

  • Players alternate turns, moving one piece per turn unless capturing.
  • Pieces move diagonally on dark squares. Regular pieces can only move forward.
  • A piece becomes a "King" if it reaches the opponent's back row, allowing it to move both forward and backward.
  • Capturing is mandatory if a capture move is available.
  • The game ends when one player has no remaining pieces or legal moves.
